Implement The Compound Effect to Jumpstart Your Life Today

I recently read SUCCESS magazine publisher Darren Hardy’s bestseller, The Compound Effect, and it both confirmed some habits I already have and exposed me to some new concepts around daily activity.

What is the Compound EffectSo what is the compound effect? Success is the result of small—and at times, seemingly insignificant—activities practiced consistently over time. And it applies to every aspect of your life, whether it’s relationships, finances, career, health, etc.

Your success boils down to your choices and your habits. There is no “silver-bullet” or shortcut to success; it requires focus, determination and the ability to dream big! As Darren puts it, “the process is laborious, tedious and even boring.” Success comes from hard work, discipline and commitment.

Are you choosing to be positive? Did you decide to make exercise a priority today? Do you prioritize your own daily activities? Let’s a take a look at some of the great takeaways in The Compound Effect and how you can use those principles to achieve a better you.

Darren: “Write out a half dozen seemingly inconsequential steps you can take every day that can take your life in a completely new and positive direction.” Need some ideas, go to my main page at talljeff.com and opt-in to my email list; in return I’ll send you my exact daily routine. It’s the 7 daily habits that anyone can fit into their schedule to lead a more focused and productive life.

Darren: “Write out a few excuses you might be clinging to… Decide to make it up in hard work and personal development to out-compete anyone—including yourself.” One of the excuses I hear most often is, “I don’t have enough time.” We all have 24 hours in a day, you can maximize your time or waste it, and the choice entirely is yours. By the way, how much TV did you watch last night?

Darren: “Where in your life are you not taking 100 percent responsibility for the success or failure of your present condition?” Are you where you want to be in your career, relationships, income, physical condition, etc. Be honest with yourself! And if you blame someone or something else, you aren’t taking 100 percent responsibility. You have one life; let’s dream big!

Darren: “Start tracking at least one behavior in one area of your life you’d like to change and improve.” Maybe it’s procrastination, avoidance, inconsistency or lack of motivation. Just select one behavior you think is holding you back and decide how you want to change.

Darren: Identify your core motivation. “Discover what gets you fired up to achieve big results.” This is a big one, often called your WHY. Why do you want a bigger income? Be specific, how would an extra $1,000 per month impact your life? How would your friends react when they see you in that awesome new pair of jeans, displaying a new you in both style and vitality? What motivates you? Everyone is motivated by different things. Whatever it is for you, plug into your WHY to find your motivation.

Reading Darren’s book gave me a renewed spirit to continue to build upon some changes I have made in my life and hopefully impact others to do that same. Once you begin applying the compound effect and focus your daily habits, you will be amazed at the differences in your life. As Darren puts it, “The life we end up with is simply an accumulation of all the choices we make.”
